About
"Perceptual Scapes" is a body of work composed of Wet Plate Collodion Abstractions. Images were composed using either fragments of glass mirrors or torn paper taped against windows of either city or land-scapes. Focus was emphasized on the pane of glass in order to abstract the background into a textural plane so as not to distract from the image created with a sense of place but instead to rather create a sense of space. By placing objects as obstructions in the viewer's normal line of vision, an entirely new perception of what the viewer sees is created, thus 'perceptual scapes.' It is by cutting into the viewer's line of vision that the images challenge what it is that we see and how we perceive it. Much of the work also mimicks the process of Wet Plate collodion, drawing on the imperfections of the process as an aid to the image.
