★★☆☆☆

Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson is a psychological thriller about a woman who has lost her story-term memory.
I got this book in one of my years prior #bookoweenswap and read it for Spooky Season.
Christine wakes up every morning with no memory of who or where she is. Every morning her husband, Ben, has to explain things to her - an accident from many years ago has left her with amnesia. Today she found a journal she has been keeping which suggests things might not be exactly as they seem...
I started this book with an idea of what the twist and the ending would be - when that's exactly what happened I was super disappointed. It's not fun when you can see the twist from the beginning. The book is a cool concept - I like to describe it as 50 First Dates but scary - and the author wrote it during an intensive writing fellowship as his first book, which is also cool. I think I'm just hard on psychological thrillers, especially conditions which I feel like get particularly "hollywood-ized."
If you liked Before I Go To Sleep, I also recommend The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, The Silent Wife by A. S. A. Harrison, The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins, and Into the Water by Paula Hawkins.
Happy reading 🎃
