Billy Summers(Click Here To Buy)

★★★★☆

Billy Summers by Stephen King is a fiction book about a hit man.

I checked this book out from the library.

Billy had a rough start in life - as a child he shot his mother’s boyfriend after the man killed his sister. From there he went into a foster home until he joined the marines and served as a sniper in Iraq. After returning from the service, he became a hit man, making it a point to only ever kill ‘bad’ men. We first meet Billy when he’s starting his last job. He’s asked to use an alias of a man who is a writer and a big part of the job is waiting. While waiting, Billy decides to try his hand at writing a fictionalized account of his life story.

I almost gave this book 3 stars, because large sections of it were pretty mundane and it felt like six stories going all over the place. By the end I notched up to 4 - I just really love Stephen King and it comes through in this book how much he loves writing and that makes me smile. For those constant readers out there, the book also has some fun easter eggs - and thats all I’ll say.

I've read hella Stephen King books, and The Green Mile is my fav both by him and in general.

If you liked Billy Summers, I also recommend Blacktop Wasteland by SA Cosby, Highway Blue by Alisa McFarlane, Women's World by Graham Rawle, and Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead.

Happy reading -

PS to Constant Readers - there is a Castle Rock, WA! (pictured) I came across it while driving to Mt. Helens and I was tickled pink to have a King book with me.

About Me

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
