Bucky F*cking Dent (Click Here To Buy)

★★★☆☆

Bucky F*cking Dent by David Duchovny is a fiction book about a man with not a lot going in his life who starts spending more time with his estranged father when he learns his father is dying from cancer. I decided to read this after I realized Duchovny writes books when @whatwanderingwindyreads posted about his latest book.

I read this as an audiobook on loan from the library. The book was read by the author. I 100% read this book because it was written by Mulder and I am an X-Files fan.

This is a very whimsical, humorous, and quirky book. Ted, the main character, is a failing writer and works at Yankee Stadium selling peanuts despite a degree from Columbia. Marty, his father, is a man who loves the Red Sox and who’s health improves every time they win. Ted devises a plot to make it seem like the Sox are winning for his father’s sake. This book is about the moments we still find to laugh and give each other a hard time despite death looming overhead. It’s a sweet father and son book told with a joke after every line and an insult after every heartfelt moment.

I can see myself reading Duchovny’s other book Miss Subways and possibly his new one Truly Like Lightningidk about the cow one tho…

If you liked Bucky F*cking Dent, I also recommend Still Life with Woodpecker by Tom Robbins, Hyperbole and a Half by Allie Brosh, Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple, and High Fidelity by Nick Hornby.

happy reading,

About Me

IMG_1517.jpg

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
