Burnout: The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle (Click Here To Buy)
★★★★☆

Burnout is a non-fiction book by Emily and Amelia Nagoski
I read this book as an audiobook on loan from the library and read by the authors. The authors are very personable when they read the book, but you might want to buy a hard copy so that you can underline and revisit some of the suggestions/tips.
This book is about stress and what we can do about it. The book is written for women. (I do want to acknowledge that men feel stress too and I wish there had been a place for that in this book).
There were so many useful things I learned in this book about stress and burnout. As a mental health professional, it was very helpful. Two biggest take-aways:
When you are stressed, you have to complete the cycle so your body knows to stop feeling stressed. This can be accomplished in a number of ways including breathing, creating, and running. Two additional ways were hugging for 20 seconds or kissing for 6 seconds! (I loved telling my partner about this one)
42% of your time needs to be devoted to rest, which equals about 10 hours per day. Rest can include sleeping, READING, exercising, and eating.
At the end of every chapter there is a TLDR (too long; didn’t read), which condenses the main points. When taking in a wealth of information like this, I really appreciated the summaries.
I have also read Come As You Are: The Surprising New Science That Will Transform Your Sex Life by Emily Nagoski and I highly recommend it.
If you liked Burnout, I also recommend Untamed by Glennon Doyle, Daring Greatly by Brené Brown Running is My Therapy by Scott Douglas, and The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk.
Happy Reading,
Ms.Bjork
