Ms.Bjork here,

Welcome to my first January Reads on bookstagram! It’s been an enjoyable month for reading and hopefully a predictor of the good still yet to come. This month, the 14 books I read are in tiers of MUST READS, Add these to your TBR, and Read them if they come your way.

Favorite Book This Month:

Leaving Atlanta by Tayari Jones

Runner-up:

A Knock at Midnight by Brittany Barnett

TIER 1: MUST READS #5stars

The story of three children growing up in the late 70s in Atlanta while a child abductor is at large.

A lawyer fighting to free those wrongfully sentenced to life in prison for mandatory minimums.

Memoir by Madam Vice President about her career and personal history.

A woman sent to the Mexican countryside to save her cousin from something strange and evil.

TIER 2: Add these to your TBR (all 4 & 5 star books)

Nine short stories of Black women and how they come to terms with their sexuality, family, and identity in relation to the Black church

A police officer in search of her sister while a killer hunts vulnerable women in Philadelphia.

How to bring courage, compassion, and connection into your life and love yourself as you are.

Three sisters trying to hold the family together amongst prison, addiction, and abuse.

The clashing of tradition and change in Nigeria when white missionaries first arrive.

TIER 3: Read them if they come your way (3 & 4 star books)

How to stop being so stressed all the time.

History of mediocre white men in America over the last century.

Someone is killed while a couple is getting married on a remote island and everyone has a motive.

A woman attempts suicide and is taken to a library between life and death where each book represents an alternate reality of life had she made different decisions.

A conversation about whiteness.

Read any of these?

About Me

IMG_1517.jpg

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
