Little Eyes (Click Here To Buy)

Little Eyes by Samantha Schweblin is a fiction book about a new toy that takes the world by storm.

Checked this book out from the library (on a day when I checked out waaay too many books) and had a lot of pressure to finish it before it was due because I couldn’t renew it! (Don’t worry I finished it AND returned it on time)

A new toy called a kentuki has just been released. It's an animal that rolls around your house. The caveat is it has a camera and there's someone on the other side operating it. People around the world go gaga for these new devices choosing to be keepers or dwellers. The book is made up of short stories of people's experiences in different cities as keepers or dwellers. An older woman in Peru dwells in a twentysomething German girl's kentuki; In Antigua, a 12-year-old boy liberates his kentuki to explore Norway. In Croatia, a man tries to take advantage of the system to make some money. Sometimes things go right and it's almost like a meet cute. Sometimes things go terribly wrong, and one party is quite awful. Kind of like a dumpster fire, you know things will not end well, but you can't look away. It's hard to say more aside from the fact that this is such a unique book and I absolutely loved it - Schweblin is my kind of writer.

I have also read Fever Dream by Schweblin and it’s fantastic - read that book in one sitting!

If you liked Little Eyes, I also recommend Needful Things by Stephen King, Finna by Nino Cipri, Pet by Akwaeke Emezi, and Big Machine by Victor LaValle.

Happy reading!

About Me

IMG_1517.jpg

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
