Our Time is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America (Click Here To Buy)
★★★★★

Our Time is Now: Power, Purpose, and the Fight for a Fair America by Stacey Abrams is a non-fiction book about voter suppression.
I read this as an audiobook on loan from the library and read by the author.
This is a powerful book that explains the processes and pitfalls of voting. This should be required reading for all Americans to better understand the voting system and how we can rectify the problems within the system. Abrams touches on all the issues ranging from the struggle to register to voter purges (people’s registration being terminated) to signature matching. Abrams also traces the history of critical voting legislation including the Dred Scott Decision (denying African Americans as citizens), Gerrymandering (redrawing district boundaries to favor one party), and the Shelby Decision (redressing racial discrimination in the voting process). Finally, Abrams addresses identity politics, the fight to end the electoral college, and the impact of funding on faulty census practices. I learned so much from this book and it really goes to show how important it is for people to get out there and vote!
If you liked Our Time is Now, I also recommend The Truths We Hold by Kamala Harris, Caste by Isabel Wilkerson, A Promised Land by Barack Obama, and A Knock at Midnight by Brittany Barnett.
~Happy reading~
