A Colorful Set of Books

My first #rainbowstack -

  • DSM-5: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders by American Psychiatric Association Must have for assessment as a mental health professional

  • The Kalevala Compiled by Elias Lönnrot A Finnish epic poem, bringing in my heritage

  • The Dark Half by Stephen King A writer’s pseudonym comes alive and destroys everyone. Just got this for halloween in @areaderinlove’s Book-o-ween Book Swap, can’t wait to read it, love the King

  • The Yellow House by Sarah Broom The story of a family and their home in New Orleans East. I used to live in NOLA and looking forward to reading this one as well (A Christmas gift from a co-worker)

  • The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk About how we hold trauma in our bodies and how it affects our brain

  • Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi Multi-generational story of two sisters and their descendents through eight generations. Maybe the best book I’ve read in the last 2 years

Anyone read any of these?

About Me

IMG_1517.jpg

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
