Ms.Bjork here,

I read 128 books last year and after some painstaking analysis, these are my top 10 books of 2020. I gave all of these books 5 star ratings, so if you’re looking for something to read, you can’t go wrong with any of these:

·The Changeling by Victor LaValle

This book is a rollercoaster of a ride in the best way, whatever you think you know, you don’t! A love story between a book dealer and a librarian that turns into an epic search, this is a story about love and parenthood.

·The Beauty in Breaking by Michelle Harper

A memoir by a Black, female ER physician that delves into finding the line between compassion and self-care.

·Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones

A story told in parts by 2 sisters from the same father but from 2 different families. Heartbreaking and honest.

·Just Mercy by Brian Stevenson

A memoir by the creator of the Equal Justice Initiative and the tumultuous first years fighting for justice on death row.

·Circe by Madeline Miller

A humanized account of the Greek enchantress Circe. It is an empowering female narrative that intertwines with well-known Greek mythology.

·Until We Reckon by Danielle Sared

A memoir from the creator of Common Justice and an in-depth look at restorative justice.

·Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi

The story of a young Nigerian woman with ogbanje spirits within her, written from multiple perspectives.

·Revival by Stephen King

The story of the search for what’s on the other side of death.

·Hidden Valley Road by Robert Kolker

True story of the Galvin family and their struggle with schizophrenia.

·Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi

A scientist studying addiction in lab rats struggling with the grief of a brother who overdosed and passed away and a mother at home crippled with depression.

Happy Reading!

About Me

IMG_1517.jpg

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
