Wylding Hall (Click Here To Buy)

★★★★☆

Wylding Hall by Elizabeth Hand is a scary book about a British band that rents an old house to record an album.

I read this as an ebook checked out from the library on my Kindle.

It was the 1970s and the band Windhollow Faire was ready to make their second album when their manager, Tom, rented Wylding Hall, an old manor out in Hampshire. The five mates move into the house and end up recording some fantastic music, only thing is strange things are happening in the house - singing when no one was around, blood splattered walls...and then Julian, the lead singer, goes missing. Forty years later, a documentarian interviews the band and close friends to see if they can figure out what happened at Wylding Hall.

This is a very eerie read. It's gothic and a lot goes unexplained, which leaves you with an unsettled and creepy vibe. I liked it. As with all music-ey books, I wonder if they sing the songs in the audiobook...?

If you liked Wylding Hall, I also recommend The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson, A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay, The Graveyard Apartment by Mariko Koike, and Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

Happy reading 💀

About Me

IMG_1517.jpg

Ms.Bjork here and I love reading.  Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the company of a good book.  Books are also a way that I get through the stress of living - nothing like escaping in a good story!  My career as a mental health counselor can be very intense at times - reading and running are the two main ways that I utilize self-care to support my own mental health and wellbeing.  Before starting this blog, in 2020 I read 128 books.  At the end of the year, I was like Dang, that's a lot of books! How can I get out there and tell people what I think? And so Ms.Bjork Reads was born.
